Information Sessions - Information for Students
Companies or education programs that want to recruit Queen’s students or raise students’ awareness of their organization or programs will often hold information sessions on campus. Usually there is a brief presentation about the company and their positions followed by a “Question & Answer” time and a networking opportunity in which you have a chance to introduce yourself and create a positive impression.

Who can attend?
Organizations usually indicate their target audience to Career Services. This will be advertised in MyCareer and in our weekly email bulletin. All targeted students are welcome to attend.
Do I HAVE to attend?
No, attendance is not mandatory, but if you do not attend, you may miss important information regarding the employer/school's requirements, application procedures and information that might be pertinent to you.
What is the difference between an information session and a briefing session?
Unlike information sessions, briefing sessions are mandatory and are usually held the evening before or the morning of a company’s on-campus interviews. Briefing sessions give students an overview of the company and a chance to ask and get answers to general questions that several students may have about the company or career opportunities available. Briefing sessions also give recruiters more time in the interview to concentrate on more questions that are specific to you as an interviewee.
Preparation for an Information Session
Review the job postings/program information carefully. Research the company or school program ahead of time. Prepare some questions that you can ask in the networking time period. Dress as you would for an interview!
How can I find out if there is one scheduled for the company I’m interested in?
Check the calendar on Events & Workshops, or login to MyCareer and look in Events/Workshops for the "filter events by categories" pick list box in which you can select Informations Sessions. Also, check individual company/education program websites because they often list their upcoming information sessions at various universities. Check back frequently as this list will change.
