Employers of small/medium sized companies can access up to $3000 in wage subsidies to hire a Queen’s student part-time this fall!

If your position is NEW, and provides career skills development such as analysis, writing and reporting, marketing, or coordination, etc. you may qualify for a wage subsidy. Submit your job description today for approval and posting to with Subject:  EL Wage Subsidy! *Note: subsidy is based on approximately 30% of minimum wage.


EL Job Eligibility

  • Must be a new position (i.e. not an existing position).
  • Position(s) must not replace a current employee.
  • Position (s) must start and finish within July 1, 2018 – March 31 2019.
  • Student must be working at a minimum of 5hrs/week to a maximum of 15hrs/week.
  • Position is not in the employer’s home nor providing personal services, to an employer.
  • Position must provide some career skills development. (Example skills include: analysis, marketing, coordinating, designing, programming, evaluating, writing and reporting, leadership, collaboration, etc.).
  • Students must be currently registered in a full-time Queen’s University undergraduate-degree program.
  • Graduate students are eligible for this funding opportunity.

Employer Eligibility

  • In Kingston or region.
  • Employer provides on-going coaching and feedback, and completes a short learning reflection exercise with the student employee (Queen’s provides the short reflection form).
  • Employer must provide feedback at the end of student’s position.
  • Position(s) cannot be supported with other funding from Queen’s or Government of Ontario.
  • Employers commit to following all applicable laws and regulations.


  1. Send us your job description for approval and posting right away! (We will review and respond within 2 working days). Send to with Subject: EL Wage Subsidy. (If you don’t know what to write in the description, email us and we’ll help).
  2. Choose a job posting closing date. Students will apply for the job until the closing date. At that time, all the applications will be bundled and sent to you to review.
  3. You will review the applications and go through your normal hiring process to select a student.
  4. Once you have selected a student, submit the “EL Wage Subsidy Agreement” for approval, indicating your selected student. We will confirm their eligibility for this program and send back approved form within 2 working days.
  5. Make your job offer to the student and the student starts work.
  6. You will submit the student’s hours at the end of the work term (deadline March 31, 2019). This submission unlocks/activates wage subsidy reimbursement, approximately $5.36/hour, up to a maximum of $3,000.
