Summer Jobs

We are hearing from many students who are worried about how COVID-19 will impact the availability of jobs for summer 2021, so we’ve launched the Summer Jobs 2021 Campaign to get you information and connections to help build your best summer.

In addition to this new website (please see content below) we are

  • increasing our outreach to employers to post summer opportunities in MyCareer
  • compiling information about summer funding programs, summer opportunities, and other resources
  • adding more workshops and other training opportunities for you to build your skills and connections
  • hosting events, such as the summer opportunities networking event and summer opportunities at camps where students can speak directly with employers

COVID has changed a lot, but there are still employers who are and will be hiring. There are new job postings daily on the job board in MyCareer and employers continue to attend career fairs and other events. There are also other summer opportunities you can explore to keep your professional development moving forward, despite challenges. Career Services is here to help – we hope the resources below are helpful, and remember we are always happy to hear from you – speak with a Career Counsellor at drop-in Career Advising.

How do I find a summer job?
Learn how to find and apply successfully to summer positions

Finding a summer job is a combination of using effective job search strategies (networking, resumes, interviews) and finding job postings/openings. As you’ve likely heard, while some jobs are advertised, most are not (the “hidden job market”). This section lists ways you can develop your job search strategies (the next section What's out there? will list resources for job positions and employment programs).

Job postings and summer experience programs are a great way to explore what is out there. But remember that not all jobs are advertised! Many are in the “hidden job market” – more about how to learn to network and find those opportunities is found in the previous section of this site, How do I Find a Summer Job?
