Through the principle of communication, we check-in with student and professional staff to ensure the formats we primarily communicate through are accessible and effective for all staff – sometimes this means switching to different platforms when necessary. Through the principle of community, we ensure our spaces are welcoming for everyone and offer opportunities for students to engage with inclusive community-building activities– including attending Elder Talks as a group and visiting the Waabanjigaazo Exhibition at Union Gallery. Finally, through the principle of curiosity, we encourage staff to learn more about the social context and history of each person’s experiences and ideas. For example, this is demonstrated in our Student Staff Knowledge Exchange sessions, where students have the autonomy to lead conversations with their fellow staff on leadership skills important to them.
