Having celebrated our 100th year in October 2022, CFRC is one of the longest-running, campus-based broadcasters in the world and the oldest in Canada. In addition, CFRC provides free broadcast and podcast skills training to Queen's and Kingston community members, and organizes creative radio-related community events and projects throughout the year. As a not-for-profit radio station, CFRC is an important alternative to commercial radio and the CBC. It provides a valuable source of information, local news, and a venue for learning and discussion for all members of Queen's campus, Kingston and surrounding areas. Over the course of many decades, CFRC volunteers and staff have recorded and produced countless hours of unique programming content including recordings of on-campus speaking events, concerts, panels and issues; local music performances; interviews with Queen's and Kingston academics, authors, artists, politicians and community members; and works of radio art including in-house original radio drama productions, sound art compositions, live musical performances, and original turntable mixes to name just some of the unique material in CFRC's archives.
