- In partnership with Indigenous communities, we developed and implemented a meaningful Land Acknowledgment and Policy, which is now included in all MRHA events and communication.
Engagement and Education Staff Training: Exceeding Goals
- We launched DEI&B learning modules through our Learning Management System, ensuring mandatory staff completion. By December 31, 2024, we achieved a 90% completion rate, exceeding the corporate goal of 60%.
Departmental Huddles
- DEI&B committee members participated in departmental huddles to provide updates and raise awareness of our initiatives.
On-boarding & Corporate Orientation
- We are included on the Corporate Orientation agenda promoting the DEI&B committee and work progress Community and Regional Partnerships.
- We collaborated with the Regional DEI&B committee and engaged with consultants from Pride Mississippi Mills to strengthen LGBTQ+ inclusivity within MRHA.
- We have developed partnerships with local indigenous organizations; Ginawaydaganuc Village and Wabano Centre.
- Progressive and Indigenous Flags
- Installation of Progressive and Indigenous flags at MRHA sites, symbolizing our commitment to inclusion. Recognition of Celebratory DEI&B dates
- We have developed many recognition memo’s/posters to ensure our staff take time to reflect on important DEI&B related dates such as Truth and Reconciliation Day, World Mental Health Day and Bell Let’s Talk Day, Pride Month. This has been well received by staff. We will ensure this continues.
- DEI&B Job Posting Statement and Interview Questions
- DEI&B statements were incorporated into job postings, and standardized DEI-focused interview questions were introduced to promote equitable hiring practices.
- Committee Learning and Future Planning Local Immigration Partnership (LIP)
- In November, we invited Gabriella Salera from LIP to our committee meeting where we had a learning session on the topic of Unconscious Bias. Hoping to be able to offer more education from LIP.
- We attended an educational session hosted by the Wabano Indigenous Centre focused on the cultural practice of smudging, looking at the approval of a drafted policy offered as a spiritual and cultural support for patients and residents.
- DEI Workplan 2024/25 We developed a comprehensive workplan that focuses on five key pillars, aligning our actions with MRHA’s goals and values.
Future Directions
We are excited for the year ahead and have laid the foundation for continued progress. Our future goals include:
- Expanding partnerships with Indigenous communities and local organizations.
- Implementing smudging services and expanding cultural support offerings.
- Continuing staff education to deepen cultural competence.
- Exploring additional inclusive accessibility improvements across MRHA sites

Find it with the Official Languages Programs (OLP-PLO) There are three programs to choose from, with various locations across the country. Each location offers a unique experience and setting. EXPLORE : Spend the spring or summer exploring life in a new city, immersed in a different culture with other young people, all while learning to speak French. The Master of Urban Innovation (MUI) program offered within the Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI) at UTM is designed to provide a new generation of practitioners with an in-depth understanding of the role that innovative, vibrant, liveable and supportive city-regions play in sustaining the quality of life and economic well-being of Canadians. The MUI program is based on the premise that successful communities and dynamic regional economies do not happen by chance. The Master of Management of Innovation program attracts students with science, engineering and technology backgrounds.
